on an island off of africa we cut.
don't ask why, it is what it is. we are here for the next few weeks.
soon back on an island off of new jersey (manhattan) but for now be happy it's warm in march.
andy and i sit in a small modern apartment on the mediterranean.
today was my first day in there.
i'll see an assemblage in the next few days and have a real sense of things.
there's little to do but cut and stare up at the stars, so we should move quickly.

Glad to hear from you Darren!
Personally I'm not a big fan of rabbit, but hey, new experiences are always fun so if you haven't tried, I say give it a shot!
Good luck with the editing. Can't wait to see the movie!
Stick to the local stuff. If you can find it, I hear they make great falcon.
loved the fountain and requiem, cant wait to see this one.
The only way to find out is to try... no risk, no reward. :)
Definitely try. Sickness is great for the creative soul.
Sure, try it! What the hell, you only live once, right?
Malta is great! Went there 2 years ago and loved it. I'm sure you'll have an awesome experience, too. Make sure to visit the "Popeye Village" set.
Good luck with the cut!
Hi Darren!
I have been in Malta for christmas and New Year's Eve.
It was ok, but there are better places.:-)
I love your movies and i can't wait to see the next one!
hi haha i randomly found your blog ... it's a funny story because I saw somewhere Harvard had a film program(i was completely surprised by this) and then I saw that you went there for film and I remember watching something and you were in it in one of my film classes. pretty cool. anyway, i plan to major in film and tv production at NYU soon. cool blog, by the way.
oh yeah hahaha we happen to be born on the same birth date, which if i find pretty cool... by the way, if you ever need an assistant (to get coffee or anything) on a film set.. dont hesitate to ask.. i'm very efficient, hardworking, detailed, and very very organized. :).

I would also try the new food. I'm Asian and lemon chicken is not that bad. Because c'mon, trying the same old local stuff can get boring after a while.
...i've tried rabbit not knowing it and like they say...tastes like chicken...upon figuring it out i still ate the rest of it...some photos would be nice...or a video??
just try!.
Potato! with rabit
And Whisky!
Hey Darren, I'm so excited about this film. I know you guys are in the midst of an insanely busy time right now, but I'm wondering if maybe you could tell us where you've come to or what your plans are with the Noah movie?
Might as well try it.
To be polite I ate rabbit in Paris at my wife's family's place. Tastes like chicken - yes, sort of - but my inner representation of 'furry bunny slightly more developed neurology' sent forth a 'never again' feeling.
Have you read Douglas Gillette's "The Shaman's Secret"? One of my favorites ... the similarities with many of your ideas in your absolutely glorious production "The Fountain" were remarkable. May you live long and create many many more films!
so did you try the rabbit? if so, how was it? worth coming to malta to try? ha
Hey Darren!! I met you at Pixar a while back in 2006 right around when The Fountain was released. It was awesome to get to chat with you for a couple minutes, you are a visionary!! I love your work, and I'll be telling all my friends to see your next movie. :)
I just bought of copy of The Fountain graphic novel today, totally psyched to read it. I've been meaning to buy it for a while. I agree with the back cover - that The Fountain was so powerful it couldn't be contained in only 1 medium... hehe I think it couldn't be contained in like 1000 mediums. You are a true artist!
You are an inspiration, Darren. Keep changing the world of cinema!! Reqiuem For a Dream is still one of the best films I've ever seen. Your work is some of the true talent in cinema today...
Cheers,
Mike Jutan :)
Malta is quite the exotic locale.
Are you planning on reviving "Flicker" ?

Glad to hear the film is moving along. Cannot wait to see a trailer!
Hey!
Since I have seen the Fountain, me and my roommate are calling each other "Finish it". I am 21 year old, sociology student at Turkey. And believe me I can give my pocket money to you to get a small role in one of your movies you are planning to direct. There is a huge number of people waiting for Black Swan. =) If you want to contact or something, I do not know you may do it or not but, hannibal.lemarc@gmail.com is my mail.
Thanks a lot byz.
I see that you are finding your way around the local village. There are many other local excellent restaurants in your vicinity but you will never find a Friut Pizza on any menu.
Jonathan
ps. loved it!
Personnaly, i can't wait for the pics of Malta...i guess you already have finished this meal...So what have you chosen?
Jordan.
I grew up in Malta and they have some of the best rabbits around. It's lean and tasty. Hope can be great. Make sure you visit Gozo, especially Ramla Bay if the weather permit.
I'd like to think you're in Malta doing some research on Flicker!
Hello Darren,
Sorry to use comments to contact you. I want to thank you for giving us the most beautiful movie ever, the Fountain. Everytime I see or even think of it, I get a massive burst of emotional chills.
I have a personal video-blog (www.capaxdei.net), and I would like to get the authorization / rights to use a few seconds of them, and since I am also into deep spiritual matters, I find your movie a perfect match to bridge science, emotion, spirituality...
My emails are premondiere@noos.fr or dorleac@noos.fr
Thank you so much for everything.

"THE GREATEST USE OF FILM is to create something that brings to bear BOTH REALITY and Moral Truth to the viewer. - without that: it is mostly a waste of time: like chewing gum for the eyes." ~ quote from THE WISE ONE, chapter 75, page 787.
Hi Darren,
I Just saw your movie 'The Fountain', found it great and also realized I found the director who could make movies in a new direction. A Direction which can change the way people think. I had such a story in my mind, a part of which happened with me, and a voice in me asked me to tell this through everyone, that too through a movie which can be seen by everyone....Please I want to tell you the crux of the story...cant do so in apublic forum....it is a spritual story...I am an Indian...my id is nautiyal.kapil@gmail.com......kindly come back.....thanks
Hi.
Today I saw the Fountain and I liked it much.
Actually I'm a bit confused and I heard there was a comment by the author I could see. I cannot find it, could you please help me?
Darren, any word on The Fountain being released as part of the Criterion Collection? This movie deserves a better release.
Darren,
Can you PLEASE remove my comment (the one from dorleac)? It appears in the search engines with a couple of my email addresses.
Thank you!
